FAQ

How can I support you?

Probably you expect here that we're saying that we need money… well, not right now. It would be really helpful if you help us to activate Keep Karlsruhe Boring, which implies some tasks everyone can do:

  • Add events. Really, we don't have an overview of everything that is happening in Karlsruhe, and that helps us a lot and in ca. 5 minutes you could be done. You can do that without an account or register (in that case, we will be able to contact you if something is wrong).

  • Spread the word. Tell your friends, family, colleagues or other people you know that Karlsruhe has now this agenda. You can do that by mouth, by email, linking from social media or websites. If you are in the Fediverse, you might follow us too!

  • talk with collectives or people organizing events: They are the best source to know what's going on and there are different ways to get their events without having to add manually ;) An email to admin [at] keepkarlsruheboring.org is probably a good start.

  • join the team: we are thinking how we will manage that, but likely a meeting every ca. two weeks, with some food or drinks, to discuss ho we continue the project. We will announce that on the web, but an email to admin [at] keepkalrsruheboring.org is not a bad idea. Out of the things above, it would be marvellous if someone is helping us with:

    • translators. It would be fantastic if all the events (or at least the ones repeating) are, at least, in German and English, but organizers not always provide a translation (which can be copied from the one from DeepL or similar, and then edited).

    • designers. Gancio (the software behind this website) is quite limited when it comes to design, but certainly, we can do the web a bit more appealing. And the logo can be nicer. And we could have stickers, posters, or postcards…

Should I know something before creating an event?

Well, in about we try to explain what are our aims and the events here should be coherent with that. If you are not sure, you can create the event, and we will decide whether it fits or not. Remember that there are real people behind Keep Karlsruhe Boring, and it may take some time (one week?) to get an answer.

  • Events should be open to everyone. Exception: safe spaces, please indicate that in the title as [x ONLY!] or similar and add the tag safe space.

  • You can add events with entrance, as long as you specify that with the price in the title [x € | x €] a and add the tag ticket so that it will not appear under “Free” events.

  • If the event is specially for children, is children-friendly or similar, you may use the tag kids. This does not mean that other events are not for children: it simply allows filtering using the tags under the search bar.

Why this name? It's not the contrary of what you are trying to achieve?

The name is a homage to one of the gorgeous plays about urban memory ever staged, and it simply deserves not to be forgotten. In the original Keep Karlsruhe Boring, the audience, divided into groups, walked around the city centre with an actor complaining about places that closed due to gentrification, without losing the particular Karlsruhe sense of humour. Thereafter, the different groups met at the city council and were reported by an administrative worker for being too loud and funny, which triggered a demonstration or parade across the city centre.

We just thought our agenda could be a nice homage to this combination of culture, fun, and politics.

How did you build that? A friend is planning something similar…

Sure! We are using Gancio, a shared agenda for local communities. You need to install in a server (= you need a hosting provider): we use uberspace because we love their flexible and fair prices, and we particularly appreciate their empowering-users vision, as well as their documentation.

By the way, Gancio follows a federation approach, so you could build another Karlsruhe Agenda (e.g. with other topics), and we could federate with each other…
