Computer Music Club [8 €]
Computer Music Club is a two-day event in Karlsruhe, this time focusing on club-oriented computer music.
Starting early on Thursday night, May 22, at 20:00 at C2 Ost (former Culteum club), Karlsruhe becomes a small-scale heaven of club-oriented computer music with amazing new rising forces from LA (c_robo_), Berlin (nesso && bruno gola), and Ljubljana (Blaž Pavlica / cosmic sex), with strong local support: nervousdata (Freiburg), dkyuh, and Michele Samarotto.
From over-saturated digital hardcore to heavily chopped samples and voices, from deconstructed a-cyclic beats to the most elegant single-sample feedback, all sounds are live-cooked by the CPUs and their beloved coders. It might sound nerdy—and it is quite nerdy, actually—but it's danceable. It's always danceable, if you feel it.
Genre orientation: experimental club, digital hardcore, breakcore, breakbeat, IDM, industrial, noise, techno.
The night will end with two DJ sets from cicada and DJ Mar (musique concrète, abstract club, DnB, dubstep).
Tickets (€8 – if cost is a barrier, please dm us)
Continuing on Friday afternoon, May 23, at 13:00, we meet at the lovely ßpace for a workshop session to decipher techniques and exchange artistic approaches.
In focus are c_robo_ and Blaž Pavlica, who performed the night before:
c_robo_ will present on future avenues for live coding, specifically the exploration of optimized code input and modification methods via text editor scripting.
Blaž will present his current livecoding practice, how he generates rhythmic structures from a single pattern of durations and how he utilizes SuperColliders lazy evaluation to improvise with the structure during performances to make broken beat dance music.
Bring your laptop and headphones to pick up a trick or two!
Registration (Donations strongly appreciated to support the travelling artists, suggested: €5–10)
Together with, and supported by C2 Ost, die Anstoß and TOPLAP Karlsruhe.
